How long have you been in this role?
Roughly 2 years
How did you initially get started?
I signed up for a writing workshop which then led to a certification which then led to a column.
What advice do you have for other women who also want to be in this role?
My advice would be to start somewhere and it will lead you to the next step naturally. Don’t overthink it. Go with your gut. You’ll be amazed on how one thing leads to another. Trust the process.
What do you do in your spare time?
Anything creative is my jam. I love to dance, sing and paint.
What or who do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the Universe/God/Source, whatever you want to call it. Whenever I feel lost, I stop and meditate in order to tap into the wisdom of the Universe. There in the calmness of my mind I receive the answers I was searching for, even if the answer is you asked the wrong question, haha. I believe calmness = clarity.
Favorite quote?
“What is done in love is done well.” – Vincent Van Gogh
How do you handle your bad days?
Self care dates with myself. Sometimes that means getting my hair done and sometimes that means a nice long steamy bath before I hit the sack.
What and who inspires you on a daily basis?
There is an incredible community of strong and powerful women that surround me. I am among other entrepreneurial women who are doing amazing things right here in San Diego. I see them all the time doing their thang with zest and love and it’s totally inspiring to be their presence.
Who do you consult for business decisions?
Usually, I go with my gut but I also ask colleagues and my husband depending on the type of decision. I try to leverage the knowledge and resources around me accordingly. I am always listening to see what resonates with my goals in life. My network includes writing coaches, intuitive guides, life coaches, consultants and business entrepreneurs.
In what ways do you motivate yourself?
I often go to workshops, meet up with other badass babes for lunch or dinner. I’m alway listening to a relevant podcast or youtube channel for inspiring content. And if I’m feeling run down I make sure to rest, recharge and play in order to fill my cup again.
What is your biggest struggle as an Asian woman in today’s society? How do you handle it?
Well, being both Asian and a woman has had it’s limitations in the past. Coming from a strict and traditional background, it hasn’t been easy to stick up for myself. Traditionally, I come from a very repressive background. We are taught not to speak up and voice our opinions which is exactly what I am choosing to do in this lifetime. So, in a way I am counter cultural. In the past, I let this factor get me down but today I leverage it to my advantage. I know my unique perspective actually helps me stick out from the crowd. I am honored to speak on behalf of anyone who resonates with my message but might not have the words for it.
Do you have a morning routine and what is it?
I love to start my mornings with meditation, a healthy breakfast and listening to inspiring content to jumpstart my day.
What is one piece of wisdom you would like to share with other Asian women?
It’s our time to shine, ladies! Maybe in the past, we’ve let our insecurities get the best of us. But let’s own all of it and use it to our advantage. What we really want to see is vulnerably bold women sharing their stories from an authentic space in order connect on an intimate human level. There is no competition. We rise together in sisterhood.
